Edgware & Harrow Jewish Day Centre
The Edgware & Harrow Jewish Day Centre is open to anyone living in the surrounding areas of Edgware, Stanmore, Harrow, Hatch End, Pinner, Elstree, Borehamwood and Bushey. It has been designed to meet the needs of older people in the community and is culturally sensitive to all Jewish people, whatever their level of observance.
Members can sit downstairs, drink tea and catch up on news while others take part in a keep fit class, art and handicrafts classes and current affairs discussions in the sports hall, before joining their friends for lunch and entertainment.
Formerly in partnership with the League of Jewish Women, the centre is now being used as a model for other day centres based at synagogues around London. Some 30 volunteers regularly help in the running of the centre.
Activities on offer include:
bridge & kalooki
hairdresser manicures & hand massage
arts and crafts
current affairs discussion groups
daily entertainment after lunch
Open 9am - 2.30pm from Monday to Thursday.
Open 45 weeks a year, closed during the main festivals.
A hot three-course fish or vegetarian lunch is provided as well as morning tea & coffee and a chance to socialise.
Around 60 members attend the centre each day.
