Thinking about working for Jewish Care? Well, if you are ambitious, the opportunities to develop a career are endless – and it doesn’t matter where you start on the ladder, as my own story demonstrates.
As a teenager, I participated in several activities at Jewish Care’s community centre in Redbridge, many of which were geared towards creating new leaders for the community.
Professional life began with a part-time youth worker position, which progressed into a full-time role. I was supported in gaining a professional qualification in the youth work field, involving one study day each week. Three years on, with support from supervisors and colleagues, I was able to take on a departmental managerial role at the centre.
Over the next five years, I was given further opportunities to broaden my skills through support and training. Shortly after a brief secondment managing another centre, my own manager at Redbridge moved up within Jewish Care and I became manager of the community centre that had nurtured me for so long.
And all this experience brings me to today. In recent months I have moved out of the community services setting to take on a new and challenging role, heading up Jewish Care’s major gifts division in the fundraising team. So after years of carefully overseeing the spending of monies raised on our vital services, I now have to ensure we bring the money in from our very loyal and committed supporters.
