Klezmer Idol plays at Rubens House

Date:  26 October 2007

Rubens House residents enjoy an evening of musical entertainment.

Stewart Curtis, the number one Klezmer artist according to a Jewish Chronicle poll, played with his trio at Jewish Care’s Rubens House in Finchley. Klezmer is the traditional Jewish party music from the towns and villages of Eastern Europe and the trio played a lively fusion of folk and jazz.

The evening was organised by Friends of Rubens House and included a buffet supper for around 80 people, who were clapping in time. More than £1,000 was raised to improve the lives of care home residents at the home, which also contains a dementia unit. “They were absolutely brilliant,” said committee member Estelle Falkson, one of the organisers. Her colleague, Sandra Cardash, added: “It’s been a very successful evening.”

Liz Linder, one of Jewish Care’s business managers, paid tribute to the committee for its hard work, which was “much appreciated.”
