Jewish Care cooks up a feast

Last week, 25 cooking enthusiasts gathered at a home in Highgate for a Jewish Italian cooking session with Italian-born chef Silvia Nacamulli.

During the afternoon the Italian chef cooked three mouth-watering dishes including chicken breast with Marsala wine and orange, sautéd spinach with pine nuts and raisins and an apple cake for dessert.

Having grown up in Rome in a warm and lively Jewish environment where excellent food was paramount, Silvia carefully observed and appreciated the art of three generations of fine Italian Jewish cooks. Today, she teaches and caters first-class Italian food in a simple yet elegant fashion. Speaking about her love for cooking, Silvia said: "Cooking in itself is a creative and fulfilling activity, and the results of your efforts can satisfy not only your taste buds but also your soul. This is my aim: cooking for the soul..."

The Jewish Care cooking classes are the first of a series of events and committee member Emma Zimmerman said she couldn’t have hoped for a better Sunday afternoon: “It was a great opportunity to meet new people with like-minded interests and it was a privilege to attend one of Silvia’s classes. I could not have hoped for a better Sunday afternoon activity and I can’t wait for the next Jewish Care cooking event!”
