Vi & John Rubens House – Ilford

Offering personal, nursing, dementia and respite care

Located close to the centre of Ilford, Vi & John Rubens House is known for its family atmosphere. One of Jewish Care’s largest homes, it includes several communal lounges and sitting areas, a synagogue, two gardens and a hairdressing salon. Two beautiful lounges have recently been created to provide a relaxing and homely environment for 29 residents with dementia.

Vi & John Rubens House is the only Jewish care home in the Redbridge area. Shabbat and the Jewish festivals are well celebrated with the help of the local Jewish community, including visiting rabbis and children from the local Jewish schools.

Social programme and activities

This vibrant home has a real “buzz” to it and there is no shortage of volunteers to help with activities, which include arts and crafts, music and movement, card games, bingo, quizzes or flower arranging . Residents are also encouraged to spend the day out at either Jewish Care’s Redbridge Jewish Community Centre (Sinclair House) or The Dennis Centre, both of which have close ties with the home.

Two dedicated members of staff are responsible for the varied social activity programme. There is even a knitting club, with residents selling their goods to raise funds for the home.

The active Friends of Vi & John Rubens House fundraising committee raises money for the home through a variety of events such as bridge and quiz nights.

Surrounding area
Valentines Park is just a few minutes away as are the local shops of Gants Hill. The Ilford Exchange is also close by.
