We help people with mental health issues to live in the community independently with some support.
The practical and emotional support we offer is aimed at anyone aged 18+ who has mental health and daily living skills needs. We help with a variety of things such as:
- travel training
- daily living skills such as cooking, cleaning, shopping and budgeting
- teaching clients how to to use appliances
- helping clients access public services
- improving social and communication skills
- exploring hobbies and interests
- helping clients organise a weekly routine
- supporting clients through transitional phases in their lives, such as moving house, bereavement, starting a new job
- accessing benefits
- supported housing through housing associations
Our aim is to increase the independence and improve the quality of life of all our clients. To do this we will:
- encourage them to engage with and access other services in their local community
- help them develop strategies and coping skills, so they have more control over their lives
- motivate them by helping them to recognise and value their own strengths
- enable them to benefit from an environment that celebrates Jewish tradition.
The Independent living team work closely with other local organisations to ensure consistency in support planning. Everyone has a support worker who they meet with regularly to discuss their needs and ongoing progress.
Referrals can be made by yourself, carers, GP's, psychiatrists, social workers etc. If you or someone you care about needs help, please contact Jewish Care Direct on: 020 8922 2222.
