Susan, Sidney Corob House resident

Susan grew up in Hackney and spent much of her childhood caring for her mother, who developed depression when Susan’s father passed away. However, no matter how hard things became, Susan was always able to enjoy sports and went on to qualify as a PE teacher.

After 15 years working in London schools, Susan became unwell herself, with bi-polar disorder, and was admitted to hospital. Since her diagnosis, she has come to live at Sidney Corob House. "My life changed when I move to Sidney Corob House and I began to live again,” Susan explains. “The staff are always here to support me… I’m more alive, confident and independent.” Susan particularly enjoys the day trips arranged by the centre, to the local cinema and nearby tea dances, saying “they make me feel like a person again!”
