Brenner Centre at Stepney Jewish Community Centre, at Raine House

Based in the East End of London, the centre is for older Jewish people living in east London and the City. It has been at the heart of East London's Jewish community for many years.

We will be looking to resume activity for the members of the Brenner Centre at Stepney Jewish Community Centre at Raine House during the week commencing 16th August with the following service changes:

We have reviewed our services across East London along with Essex and considered how these need to develop to meet the current needs of the Jewish community in the area.

We remain as committed as ever to providing services to our East End London community members in the area. However, with a significant decline in visits to the centre in the last few years, it has become apparent that we need to offer a range of different services to meet the current and emerging needs of a shrinking community.

Before the pandemic, attendance at our centre in Stepney was significantly reduced and the building itself is no longer fit for purpose. Using local halls and community resources to support our activity is now a more sustainable option and will offer a better standard of surroundings for members.

With this in mind, we will not be re-opening the service at the Brenner Centre at Stepney Jewish Community Centre at Raine House. Instead, we will be reopening at a lovely new location in the area.

Mondays and Thursdays’ activities will be at a local location which we will confirm with you nearer the time. We plan to continue running Connect@ Stamford Hill on Tuesdays from the Industrial Dwelling Society’s Ajex House in Stamford Hill.

We believe this decision will not only enable us to better meet the needs of everyone that uses the centre but will also allow us to reduce an ever-increasing deficit that is becoming unsustainable in these challenging times.

We will continue to offer a hot, kosher meal on site, and transport will be co-ordinated by Jewish Care using community transport resources such as Dial-a-Ride, volunteer drivers and private hire to support any of our members who need additional assistance.

There will be no changes at all to our membership or attendance fees, and they will remain as they were before the pandemic.
