Volunteer Team Leaders

Commitment 1 volunteer on Wednesdays, 9.00am-3.30pm / 1 volunteer on Thursdays, 9.00am-3.30pm Location Michael Sobell Jewish Community Centre, 221 Golders Green Road, London, NW11 9DQ

Purpose of Role

We are looking for 2 new Volunteer Team Leaders to assist us with the smooth running of our daily programmes by managing the volunteers on their allocated days.  Volunteer Team Leaders are members of the senior management team and liaise with staff and volunteers, engage in a wide range of tasks and ensure that Jewish Care values are practiced by our volunteers. 

Duties and responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of volunteers
  • Work as part of the senior management team
  • Ensure that all volunteers in the centre are kept up to date with regular briefings
  • Liaise with the Volunteer Team Leader responsible for recruitment to ensure that identified vacancies are recruited for – either directly or via the Volunteers’ Department
  • Identify training and development needs for volunteers and coordinate, deliver or attend that training (in conjunction with managers/Volunteers’ Department)
  • Support volunteers who may have a variety of disabilities, via the Gateway Project
  • Manage and record any challenging situations involving volunteers
  • Manage the holiday/absence list, ensuring that any absences are covered
  • Deputise for fellow Volunteer Team Leaders and absent volunteers in all areas of the centre’s work
  • Undertake supervision with every volunteer 3 times per year, including audit of skills
  • Keep the Centre Manager informed at all times

Skills and qualities required

  • Ability to lead and manage a large team
  • Ability to lead and manage change – forward thinking
  • Range of administrative skills, including producing letters and emails, excellent phone manner, updating database, etc
  • Calm disposition
  • Multi-tasking
  • Highly enthusiastic and able to motivate volunteers
  • Inclusive approach and team player - comfortable working within a diverse team
  • Able to deal with challenging situations
  • Able to assist with delivering training to individuals/groups
  • Able to attend occasional meetings outside of the core hours
  • Previous experience of volunteering
