Volunteering over the festive period

Recruitment Process

Following receipt of a suitable application, we will invite you to attend an interview to find out more about you and discuss possible volunteering opportunities.  Following a successful interview, you will be invited to attend our Volunteer Induction Training, held every 4-6 weeks at Amélie House in Golders Green, with the option of attending a 1-day course or a 2-part evening course.  You will also be required to complete a DBS (previously CRB) application form.

  • Tea Party Hosts

    Commitment 2-3 times a year on a Tuesday afternoon in Golders Green, Hampstead Garden Suburb and surrounding areas. Location Golders Green, Hampstead Garden Suburb and surrounding areas.

    Jewish Care organises regular afternoon tea parties for isolated older people who find it difficult to get out and about by themselves. Each guest is collected from their home by a volunteer driver and taken to a volunteer host’s home.

  • Story-telling Assistant

    Commitment Wednesdays 11am-12.30pm or 2-3.30pm Location Betty and Asher Loftus Centre (Friern Barnet), N11 3ND

  • Memory Way Cafe Volunteers - Edgware

    Commitment Last Wednesday of the month Location Leonard Sainer Dementia Day Centre (Edgware), HA8 7LF

    To support the successful running of the Memory Way Café - a group for carers together with their friend or family member living with dementia, to enjoy activities and socialise.

  • Shul Volunteers

    Commitment Once a month or more on Saturdays 10am-12pm or for Jewish festivals Location Betty and Asher Loftus Centre (Friern Barnet), N11 3ND

    To support residents during Shabbat services and other shul services throughout the year

  • Manicurist

    Commitment Flexible days/times but with a weekly or fortnightly commitment Location Betty and Asher Loftus Centre (Friern Barnet), N11 3ND

    To paint residents’ nails in a residential or nursing home

  • Bridge Players

    Commitment Monday afternoons Location Betty and Asher Loftus Centre (Friern Barnet), N11 3ND

    To encourage and support care home residents to play bridge

  • The Reader Volunteers

    Commitment Facilitate one group per month (1.5 hours per week) on Wednesdays and provide cover once a month for another group. Peer support meetings are held once a month for 2 hours. Minimum commitment 1 year Location Vi & John Rubens House, Ilford, IG2 6JH

    Volunteers are required to facilitate Shared Reading Groups in Jewish Care homes and daycare centres. Shared Reading is a way of bringing people together to read aloud a story or poem and make friends in a safe environment.

  • Benefits Adviser

    Commitment Wednesdays, hours to suit, ongoing - with supervision/support once every 6 weeks in Golders Green or Redbridge. Location Borough of Hackney and adjoining parts of Haringey

    To make 1 to 2 home visits per week to assist clients with benefits claims.

  • Reception Cover

    Commitment Any weekend between 8am and 8pm (except Tuesdays 10am-3pm and Sundays 10am-12pm), ongoing Location Clore Manor Residential Home, 160-170 Great North Way, London, NW4 1EH

    Dedicated volunteer needed to help run an efficient reception desk at Clore Manor Residential Home.

  • Spanish Teacher

    Commitment Required 1 hour per week, day flexible, ongoing Location Michael Sobell Jewish Community Centre - Golders Green

    We're looking for a fluent Spanish speaking teacher who is able to teach for 1 hour a week.

  • Duty Volunteer, Community Support & Social Work Team

    Commitment Wednesdays and/or Fridays, 10am – 4.30pm, ongoing Location Amelie House - Golders Green

    To be the public face/voice of Jewish Care; to provide information and advice; to act as a link between the Jewish Care Helpline and the Community Support & Social Work Team.

  • MIDAS Drivers

    Commitment Ongoing Location Various

    To drive Jewish Care minibuses taking clients to events and/or on outings
