Whilst the Covid-19 pandemic still impacts our services, the majority of our volunteering opportunities are either online or are activities such as telephone befriending or Meals on Wheels deliveries. There are limited roles for face to face engagement with our clients at this time.

Steps to becoming a volunteer at Jewish Care
We invite you to view our current vacancies here, where you will be able to see the opportunities available and apply. If you are not sure about the options available, or don’t see any vacancies that are right for you at the moment, please contact the Jewish Care Volunteers Department via email@example.com or telephone 020 8922 2405.
You will be invited for an interview to discuss your experience and the role in more detail by a member of the Volunteers Team. This can be done virtually over Zoom or telephone.
Once you the position is agreed we will set you up with a profile, providing two references and completing a DBS (previously CRB) application form online. Additional paperwork may need to be completed for some roles e.g. volunteer driver.
You will be invited to attend mandatory Volunteer Induction Training. This training is to enable our volunteers to carry out their roles to the highest professional standards, develop skills, build confidence and meet other new volunteers. Currently this training is conducted over Zoom and can be done in the comfort of your home.
Step Five - Congratulations!
Once we have received and recorded a suitable DBS, satisfactory references and training has been completed, you are officially part of the Jewish Care team.

“I co-ordinate up to 12 befrienders who have about 35 clients between them. I phone one client myself, and spend the majority of my time co-ordinating other befrienders. It is wonderful to have a group of befrienders, who are so committed to their clients. The fact that befriending is now a telephone or online call as opposed to a personal visit, makes it no less valuable to the receiving clients. It is incredibly fulfilling because we are able to reach out to those who are housebound due to their age or health, and those who are shielding at home. Through regular contact, we make sure they are safe and do not feel so isolated.”

“I started volunteering for Meals on Wheels in April, during the first lockdown.
“It’s really wonderful to be able to help people and it’s nice to see the community and the recipients of the Meals in Wheels and have a chat with them when I drop the meals off.
“I would definitely recommend volunteering with Meals on Wheels. It’s really easy to get involved and you can give as much or as little time as you have. I also think it’s really great to meet residents from the local community.”
