Penny Junor royal stories raise funds for Jewish Care28 May 2019
More than 100 guests attended Jewish Care’s Options Committee Lunch at the Betty and Asher Loftus Centre in Friern Barnet on Wednesday 22 May raising £6,000 which will go towards new garden furniture and outings for the residents. At the lunch, Penny Junor spoke entertainingly, sharing stories of her experiences in journalism and from her career writing biographies on members of the Royal Family, including Prince Charles, Her Majesty The Queen and her well-loved Corgi's. She went on to write biographies on former Prime Minister's, Baroness Thatcher and Sir John Major, actors Richard Burton and Cliff Richard.
The author took a tour of one of the care homes at the Centre, chatting with residents about etiquette for meeting members of the Royal family. She later signed copies of her book, All the Queen's Corgis, and told guests, "I was pleased to have a look around the lovely Kun Mor & George Kiss Care Home. I had a mother who lived in a care home for many years and I wish she'd been somewhere like this. I'm pleased that some of the funds from today's lunch will go towards garden furniture for the new garden and outings for the residents to enjoy."
The lunch was kindly sponsored by Vintage Wealth. Speaking at the lunch, Assistant Fundraising Director, Carolyn Rozenberg, said, “I would like to thank Penny Junor for giving her time so generously and entertaining us with such fascinating stories. I’d also like to thank the Options Committee, now in its fifth decade, for organising this fantastic event and our guests for their support.
“Our local committees provide the things that make a real difference to the day to day lives of those that we care for, from Ipads to extra entertainment and wonderful outings, often, it can be the little things that matter most, making someone’s day feel special.”
