This week, Jewish Care’s CEO, Daniel Carmel-Brown, took part in a ‘ThinkIn’ for Tortoise Media to discuss the question “How do we fix the crisis in our care homes?”.

The event was hosted by co-founder of Tortoise Media and former Director of News & Current Affairs at the BBC, James Harding. Other panellists included journalist, Ian Birrell, Business and Risk Adviser at Opus Business Services, Nick Hood, and founder and director of Compassion in Care, Eileen Chubb.

The group discussed some of the more urgent issues that coronavirus has exposed in the care sector, and how care homes across the UK have found themselves in this situation they are in today.

During the discussion, Daniel said, “The gap continues to widen for care providers in the cost of care and the provision from local Government and we’ve always known that during the next 20 years demand is only going to grow further because from the baby boomer generation.”

He continued: “My hope is that the momentum that’s been created by what’s happened over Covid-19, and the light that’s been shone on the sector, will provide an opportunity for all of us, all the stakeholders who are engaged in this process, to find a solution, because we desperately need to for the sake of ourselves, and our parents and grandparents.”
