Proposed closure of Redbridge and Southend Home Care service

04 Feb 2022

Jewish Care has taken the very difficult decision to propose the closure of our Redbridge and Southend Home Care service.

It is always our aim to provide high quality services which utilise Jewish Care’s resources efficiently, effectively and ensure their sustainability as far as possible.

In Redbridge and Southend, attracting new, high-quality staff continues to be extremely challenging. This is a challenge faced by social care providers across the country, however, some of the larger home care providers are better placed than Jewish Care to deal with these recruitment challenges and they are more easily able to fill gaps due to staff absences.

We also know that we operate in a very competitive and saturated home care market within Redbridge and Southend, where there are larger, specialist providers who can offer the same, or similar services and we are confident that those who use this service will not be left without home care provision, should they want it.

Jewish Care is dedicated to ensuring that any transition to a different home care provider is as smooth as possible and will help to identify a new home care package that is appropriate and if our service users would like us to do so.

We expect our Redbridge and Southend Home Care service to close by April 2022 and we will support our service users in finding an alternative provider in advance of this date.

Our dedicated social work team will also be available to our service users and their families where appropriate and on an ongoing basis, for as long as they are needed and wanted.

We do not, and have never charged, for these services and it is our priority to ensure that those we care for are supported during this transition.

Our Meals on Wheels, telephone befriending, community centre activities, and virtual and online programming provided by Jewish Care will all continue.

We also remain 100% committed to the development of a new Community Hub in Redbridge on the existing Sinclair House site. This is not just about physical infrastructure, but a development of the relevant provision to meet current and future demand for Jewish Care services, for the local Jewish community in Essex.  Following a positive pre-planning application meeting with the London Borough of Redbridge, we are now looking at how we progress to the next stage with our proposed development, and we will continue to keep stakeholders updated as our plans progress.
