Danny Seliger, Director of Administration at Canary Wharf Management (CMG) has been presented with the prestigious Topland Group Business Luncheon Award in memory of Philip Greenwold in recognition of his commitment and dedication to communal life.

Award winner at the Topland 2014 Business Luncheon Danny Seliger (centre)A champion of Jewish life in East London for almost 25 years, Danny has led the creation of a vibrant Jewish community in Canary Wharf. Professionals meet over kosher food, minyanim and lunch and learn sessions. Alongside this Danny has developed a programme of intergenerational activities and events. Jewish Care clients look forward to regular visits, joining Danny’s group for lunch in the Sukkah, Chanukah celebrations, and other festivals. His work extends further to delivering parcels to vulnerable people across the community.

Mark Kingston, Managing Director of Topland Group presented the award in front of 550 professionals at the Grosvenor House. He said,

“His hard work and dedication has meant that Jewish Care members receive regular invitations to special meals and Jewish festival celebrations hosted by Canary Wharf as well as receiving food packages on chaggim. Thanks to Danny, they are not forgotten.”

Danny Seliger accepted the award with great humility, saying;

"I wouldn’t usually accept an award, however, I think it’s important for everyone present to reflect on if there is a way they can give time or money and if you can’t do either then use your network to influence others. The future of Jewish Care and the communities they support relies on us to consider the ways we can engage both on a personal level and on a corporate level."

Jamie Field, Jewish Care’s East London Locality Manager said;

"Danny’s influence across the community has been crucial in ensuring that our people are not left behind in the East End."

"The impact he has made from his desk on the 34th floor reaches us every week; over 700 packages across London and the Jewish Care facilities for some of the Jewish Holidays, sometimes distributed by school children."

"He has encouraged so many others to volunteer and contribute to Jewish Care’s work. I really cannot think of a better role model for our audience. Danny does all this in addition to his demanding work at Canary Wharf Group. The community aspect is his hobby and passion. Over many years he has achieved something very special – he is a real mensch, advocating Jewish values in all walks of life, within a very corporate world."

Following the award presentation Lord Stuart Rose, former Executive Chairman of M&S and recently appointed advisor to the NHS addressed the audience. He spoke of his work with the NHS and the challenge ahead to make further links between the health and social care sectors.

He went on to praise the guests and wider community for their support in Jewish Care;

"You have a fantastic organisation, it has shown others the way, it’s an organisation with big ambition that delivers."

Speaking at the event, Nick Doffman, Chairman of the Topland Group Committee commented;

“I want to take this opportunity to thank our sponsors, guests and other supporters. I am delighted to announce that we have raised a record breaking £250,000, much needed funds to support our work.”

Nick went on to encourage guests to consider taking a lead from Danny Seliger and giving any time they may have to volunteer in one of the many Jewish Care resources.
