Question Time with Young Jewish Care20 May 2015
Over 100 young law professionals enjoyed a lively "Question Time" debate with a panel of legal experts on Wednesday evening (20th May).
Generously hosted by law firm, Jones Day, the panel included Lord Grabiner QC, Anthony Julius, Lord Pannick QC, and legal commentator and journalist, Joshua Rozenberg. The Chair for the evening was Sky News Broadcaster, Samantha Simmonds.
The evening was organised by the Young Jewish Care Law Committee and covered issues from shechita and brit mila [ritual slaughter and circumcision] to the relevance of the Magna Carta and the recent ruling against a Christian-run bakery for discrimination.
After the event, Chair of the YJC Law Committee, Andrew Freedman said:
"It was a great privilege to host these eminent panellists for giving their free time and for imparting wit, wisdom and insight into the most pressing legal, moral and political issues facing British and Jewish society today. Thanks must also go to Samantha Simmonds for her time and for chairing the event with such panache. We were able to raise £5,000 for Jewish Care's Holocaust Survivors' Centre, a fantastic amount that will go towards the wonderful work at the Centre."
Daniel Carmel-Brown, Director of Fundraising and Marketing at Jewish Care said:
"We are privileged to have this eminent panel of top legal experts in the UK supporting our Young Jewish Care event and I'd like to thank them for giving their time and sharing their expertise with young legal professionals in the community Thanks also go to the Committee who worked hard to raise funds for Jewish Care Holocaust Survivors Centre, the only centre of its kind in the UK supporting survivors through social and counselling services in a safe and secure environment."
