Summer in the City at RJCC

17 Aug 2015

Jewish Care’s RJCC’s holiday programme in Redbridge has been in full swing over the summer and there have been 1000 visits to the fun packed programme.

RJCC Summer in the CityOver 70 children a day aged 4 -11 enjoyed talent shows, messy play, sports tournaments and arts and crafts. For the oldere children, they also got to enjoy roller skating and a trip to Jump Street trampoline park.

The staff and young volunteers have been trained through RJCC’s MIKE youth leadership programme and led a fun packed summer-scheme, designed to meet the individual needs of the children and keep them entertained throughout the school holidays. It’s great for working parents with breakfast club and after school clubs on offer and the organisation has engaged with over 250 families on the scheme and worked in partnership with Chigwell Jewish Youth Club, Maccabi GB and Streetwise.

Ashley Sinclair, Youth and Community Co-ordinator said:

"Summer in the City at Jewish Care’s RJCC has been a great success for many years and is going from strength to strength. I want to thank our fantastic leaders and volunteers, many of whom have attended the summer scheme themselves when they were children. They bring an ‘old school’ youth club spirit and enthusiasm to the programme and it’s been fantastic to see the children who come enjoying themselves so much every day.”

Mum of three, Liz Jackson said:

“Thank you all so much for another wonderful play scheme. The staff and volunteers are so enthusiastic, caring and fun. It was so moving and heart warming when some of the young volunteers took the time to tell me how proud they were of the strides my daughter has taken in confidence when she’s been at Summer in the City. An it’s amazing that my son, who has autism, happily takes part in art and cookery sessions – two things he will rarely try at home. What Jewish Care does at the RJCC Summer programme is very special, I’m so grateful for all the support he gets there and we’re already looking forward to seeing you again at half term.”
