We are now edging closer to the new campus that we have planned. We are currently awaiting the outcome of a pre-planning application to re-develop the site at RJCC which will house a new residential care home (to replace Vi & John Rubens House in Gants Hill) and to build a new community centre. We hope to have the approval for this from Redbridge council in the coming weeks and will update you with the next stage of our plans as soon as possible.
The rumours that a new campus is no longer happening are simply not true. We remain as committed as ever to delivering this much needed, state-of-the-art campus to the community on the current Sinclair House site.
Our arrangements for the East London and Essex area are therefore interim and are as follows:
Redbridge Jewish Day Centre will now operate 4 days a week from Monday-Thursday to reflect attendance being primarily on those days. It will not be reopening on the current RJCC site until we are able to open the new campus. It will run from within local synagogue halls or communal buildings, subject to risk assessment and suitable access.
We plan to begin in-person activity here on the week beginning 1st October, after the High Holy Days when the synagogue buildings will be available.
We will continue to offer a hot, kosher meal on site, and a Jewish Care minibus will operate for those members who need additional help with transportation. If the minibus runs at full capacity, we will assist people with other options, such as booking Dial-a-Ride.
There will be no changes at all to our membership or attendance fees, and they will remain as they were before the pandemic.
Redbridge Adult Programming will be run from local synagogue halls and communal buildings as and when needed. This includes entertainment/Quiz evenings, Chaps that chat, Ladies that Lunch and Weekly Well Being activity such as Pilates, Yoga, table tennis and more. There is aso a fortnightly Wednesday Social Club with live entertainment from 7pm. Sunday sessions take place on an ad hoc basis such as Tribute evenings and Dinner and Dance.
The MIKE Youth Leadership Programme will continue to meet online weekly until we are able to meet in person at a local communal location on a Wednesday evening. We are also looking to resume in-person activity for this group during the week beginning 1st October, after the High Holy Days.
Over the last few years, the local community has seen an increase in activities for Jewish youth provided by the local Jewish schools and other communal groups. We have therefore taken the difficult decision not to resume our in-person youth activities when social distancing restrictions are further lifted.
We are confident that those who attended youth activity at the Redbridge Jewish Community Centre will have ample options and provision from communal partners in the area. Clore Tikva Primary School is planning to run their own holiday schemes and we are exploring partnership opportunities here and with others.
From social clubs to fitness to special events and the Salt Beef Bar, Redbridge JCC has many activities on offer.
RJCC is the local base for the Shlichut Programme in association with UJIA and the Jewish Agency for Israel.
