Vi & John Rubens House is the only Jewish care home in the Redbridge area. It brings together Jewish residents from across Essex and East London.
Close to Gants Hill, it offers care with a genuine homely feel and a lively, Jewish atmosphere. Residents who choose to celebrate Shabbat and festivals come together to do this in the home’s very own synagogue.
There are 105 bedrooms spread over two buildings, with three floors each. The care home is divided into four households, so it can still successfully provide a homely, intimate atmosphere. Residents get to know the people in their household, forming individual relationships and being part of smaller communities within the home.
Residents can relax in several lounges and seating areas where they can watch TV, listen to music, spend time in the company of others or join in our regular programme of activities. There is also a hairdressing salon and a dedicated kosher kitchen. The two gardens are the ideal places to sit and catch-up with friends in a safe and pretty space.

Services at Vi & John Rubens House range from help with daily tasks such as laundry and arranging medical appointments, to indulging in a mini makeover or having a favourite newspaper delivered to a resident’s rooms each morning.
Vi & John Rubens House provides the following services, included in the weekly fees:
- A communal synagogue service takes place every week, as well as on Jewish festivals
- Care according to a personalised care plan
- Assistance with washing, bathing, taking medication and other personal daily activities
- Food, drinks and snacks
- Bedroom accommodation with housekeeping
- Full use of communal areas
- A programme of daily activities
- Laundry service by washing machine
- Weekly on-site GP surgeries and consultations
Vi & John Rubens House can also arrange to provide the following services. Please note these services are additional costs, paid for separately to the weekly fees.
- Care according to specific, additional care needs (subject to assessment and discussion)
- New personal items such as clothes, toiletries and newspapers

Meals at Vi & John Rubens House
The team of skilled chefs plan and prepare a varied menu of meals each week. They meet with residents and relatives to ensure that they cater to every palette.
Mealtimes are social times, where residents enjoy tasty kosher meals together. Traditional foods help residents remember and mark key moments in the Jewish calendar; challah on Shabbat, doughnuts for Chanukah, honey cake for Rosh Hashanah and hamantaschen for Purim. These are all part of what makes Jewish life so important in our homes.

Discover a beautiful country house and gardens in the heart of Ilford. Visit the recreated Victorian kitchen and Georgian rooms, with gorgeous views over surrounding parkland. Enjoy contemporary art exhibitions and installations, and explore the stunning historic gardens.

Wanstead Park was once a formal landscape surrounding the great Wanstead House. Though the house is gone, the Park remains and provides a perfect venue for relaxing and exploring in nature. The Park is home to The Temple, containing art and history exhibitions and the story of Wanstead Park.
